Fitness Reality 810XLT Power Cage Features
Materials & Construction
This rack is built from 2” x 2” steel tubing and has an overall weight of about 133 pounds. It's a pretty stable rack considering its relatively low weight. Most racks weigh in at about 175-200 pounds, but you can expect to spend double the money to get into one of these racks. As a entry level model the 810XLT is an excellent choice if you're on a budget.
The frame of the cage is chrome plated for additional strength. Overall the rack is stable enough to allow for some really heavy rack pulls. Pull ups are also a breeze on this rack. There is a couple of stability bars on the back end that add to the stability of the rack so you'll have minimal feedback movement when performing your pull up workout.
This product doesn't come with assembly directions, all you have to work from is a picture of how the rack should look completed. Normally this would be a huge glaring issue, but with this rack it is not! The assembly process is extremely simple and straight forward. Everything is clearly marked and it will probably take you about an hour or so to put it together. All you'll need is a 17mm wrench and 17mm ratcheting socket. While it can be assembled alone, for a super easy experience we recommend you have a friend handy that can help you put it together.
One thing to remember is to assemble it first with all the bolts finger tight. Then tighten them down completely when everything is assembled. If you don't do it in this way then you run the risk of your rack being unstable and wobbly.
This power rack has an impressive 800 pound capacity. This is great considering the price of the product. You'd expect to pay 2X for a rack with similar capacity. With the ability to handle that much weight this rack would be perfect in the homes of any beginning or advanced body builder or weight lifter. This will be great for the majority of you. If you are looking for more weight capacity, an integrated lat pull-down and higher end material then you would want to look at the next model up called the Fitness Reality X-Class Light Commercial Olympic Power Rack.
The distance between the pillars on a rack is known as pillar to pillar rack depth and its very important for weight lifting workouts, especially if you're a body builder.
Power lifters aren't too concerned with rack depth because the bar mostly travels in an up and down straight line when they are doing squats, dead-lifts, and presses.
However, for body building exercises like curling and extensions require some extra depth as the bar moves in 3D space. The minimum viable depth for all power racks, this one included, is 23”-24” of space between pillars. We're happy to report that this rack does have that required space and would make for a good choice for any body builder.
One of the main purposes of a power rack is to assist you when weight lifting so that you have a safe and effective workout. That's why its vitally important that any power rack you're considering come with some built in safety features. You'll be happy to hear that this rack provides you with ample safety considerations. It comes with two 23” mounted safety catches. There are also dual 3.25” safety pins. Both of these safety features are constructed from hardened steel so they're both strong and durable.
The 810XLT is compatible with several optional accessories that enhance the use and effectiveness of this rack. One must have optional add-on is plate storage. You don't want to store your olympic weight plates on the floor and have to bend down each time you need to change a plate.
The plate storage add on for this product allows you to store your plates up on the rack for easy changing. Other add ons include dip attachment, which is great if you want to build lower chest mass. There is also the Fitness Reality X-class 1500 adjustable weight bench that you can purchase. It also has an 1500 pound weight capacity and has a wide seat that is padded with 2 1/2” foam. It has decline and incline options with 7 different adjustable options. There is also a detachable leg attachment that you can take on or off. I would really consider buying this along with the rack for a complete setup given how affordable the 810 is .
Fitness Reality 800XLT Final Verdict
This power rack is a well placed contender in the entry level budget marketplace. It has pretty much everything you need to be able to get some solid workout mileage out of it. Usually something that is reserved for more higher end racks, the optional add on accessories can really enhance the use and effectiveness of your rack and should be seriously considered if you can squeeze them into your budget.
