Marcy SB-7485 Adjustable Weight Bench Review

Editor’s note: the model originally reviewed here (SB-670) has been replaced by Marcy’s current SB-7485 — the specs below reflect the current product, which is assembly-free (the old SB-670 required assembly) and rated for 600 lb rather than 300 lb.

The Marcy SB-7485 is one of the few adjustable benches that actually do incline and decline positions within the same bench. This is a bench that would absolutely not work for me. I prefer something more heavy duty and sturdier, but if you are limited in space, this folds up into a really small, compact version.

Bench Angles

There are 8 different angles for the backrest — including a real decline position, so you have everything you need for chest presses, incline presses, military presses, decline presses, and of course the flat position for flys.

Dimensions

Assembled, the bench measures 68″ by 15″ by 46″ in the upright position. It weighs just 30 lb — light enough to move around without a struggle. It also folds down for storage, so you can tuck it into a closet or under a bed, which is ideal if you live in an apartment or a small space and can’t have a bench taking up room all the time. The weight capacity is a surprising 600 lb, and you would not think it would be based on the thin frame.

Materials

The frame is alloy steel, but it’s really thin, so it’s not gonna be as sturdy, and the base is rounded, which I find actually wobbles back and forth instead of a flat base foot. The angles lock in by the pin going into a hole, versus you lifting up the bench and going into a deep slot, and these types of benches rock a lot back and forth. The backrest and seat cushions are boxed upholstery in top-grade high-density foam for support and comfort during training and to reduce fatigue. There are also transport wheels and a handle grip for easy moving.

Reported Issues

There’s no leg support with this bench for the decline position, which can make working in that position a little more difficult — you’ll need to be controlled and engage your core so your feet don’t flail about. Also, the seat and back cushions aren’t perfectly aligned in the flat position, so be aware of that.

Bottom line: it’s a really low price point, but I think you would get more bang for the buck on the FLYBIRD weight bench. If you’re really tight on space, you should look at this one.
